California Supports Same Sex Discrimination

California Supreme Court_1.jpgThe California Supreme Court ruled in favor of discrimination, disavowing the constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands of hardworking, taxpaying Americans.  Their actions, bought and paid for by the Mormon Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) which donated more than $20 million to buy the Justices’ ruling in favor of a Jim Crow mentality against Christian and non-Christian Americans.Associate Justice Joyce L. Kennard, Associate Justice Kathryn Mickle Werdegar, Chief Justice Ronald M. George, Associate Justice Ming W. Chin, Associate Justice Marvin R. Baxter, and Associate Justice Carol A. Corrigan deliberately and with full knowledge took away fundamental rights of the Constitution.  These Justices ruled that “all men are NOT created equal!” Associate Justice Carlos R. Moreno was the only Justice ruling against Prop 8.  His written dissenting view accurately and appropriately stated:

Justice Carlos Moreno wrote the dissenting opinion disagreeing that the proposition did not change the constitution’s equal protection clause. He said the law denying same-sex couples the right to wed “strikes at the core of the promise of equality that underlies our California Constitution.” He said it represents a “drastic and far-reaching change.”

“Promising equal treatment to some is fundamentally different from promising equal treatment for all,” said Moreno, who had been mentioned as a possible contender for the U.S. Supreme Court. “Promising treatment that is almost equal is fundamentally different from ensuring truly equal treatment.”

The lies, deceit and misinformation from ProtectMarriage.com, The American Family Association lead by right-wing hate monger Donald E. Wildmon, The Family Research Council lead by right-winger Tony Perkins, and the group recently added to Focus on the Family, and the Eagle Forum of California, and the group recently designated as hate group by the Southern Proverty Law Center,(the center that monitors hate groups in America) James Dobson’s Focus on the Family.  These are non-profit religious groups who violate IRS rules in promoting political agendas on the back of the down-trodden in the U.S.  The crazy rhetoric touted by these idiots are bought by the ignorant “What’s next, people marrying kids or animals?”

Interestingly enough the Court completely ignored religious organizations who support gay marriage. On Jan. 14, 2009 the California Council of Churches and other religious leaders and faith organizations representing millions of members filed an amicus brief with the California Supreme Court asking the court to invalidate Proposition 8. The brief was filed on behalf of the California Council of Churches, the General Synod of the United Church of Christ, two Episcopal Bishops (of California and Los Angeles), the Progressive Jewish Alliance, the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations and the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of California, and the Northern and Southern California Nevada Conferences of the United Church of Christ.

The lesson, the Mormon Church and religious Taliban hate groups in America have more clout!

The California Supreme Court said “The court said the Californians have a right, through the ballot box, to change their constitution.”  If this were true, slavery, women’s right to vote and inter-racial marriage would still be legal. This Court in further defending themselves in support of discrimination said the 136-page majority ruling does not speak to whether they agree with Proposition 8 or “believe it should be a part of the California Constitution.”  Really?  Of course it does, it CLEARLY does. Justices do not have the luxury of hiding behind pretty words in order to take responsibility for their actions.

“Proposition 8 changes the basic nature of our government from one in which the majority protects the rights of minorities,” said Shannon Minter, lead counsel for those seeking to overturn the measure.  “It takes away the right to be treated with equal dignity and respect. A simple majority cannot be allowed to take any rights away from a historically protected minority,”

I believe there is also a larger issue here, which ignorant, uneducated or religious sheep fail to realize and that is allowing religious to dictate every facet of American’s lives OVER the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Bill of Rights.  The U. S. Constitution guarantees the rights of all Americans, same sex or not, to marriage.  Marriage is not a religious issue, it is a legal issue.  If religious zealots do not support gay marriage, then by God, don’t marry them, but do not infringe your political agenda as a constitutional agenda.  One day their actions will come back to haunt these so-called Christian Taliban and they may regret supporting this type of discrimination.

The courts of this land have bastardized our Constitution so bad it is nothing but evil at work.

Same-sex marriage is currently legal in five states – Massachusetts, the first state to legalize it in 2004, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont and Iowa.  This issue is not going away but America needs to focus on the major issues at hand, the economic collapse, high unemployment, war and health care.

As Wayne Besen states “why are we [gay Americans] the only minority in the history of this nation that has had to explicitly win public approval for our most basic needs?”

“Hell, if African-Americans had been forced to win equality through referendum they’d still be drinking out of separate water fountains in the South. Yet, we are routinely forced to degrade our humanity and grovel to voters, who smugly sit on the throne, judging whether we are worthy to visit our ailing spouses (scratch that, we are now partners, again) in their hospital beds.”

If marriage is so important, people should not be looking to the failed leadership of churches and religious groups who can only boast divorce rates are now over 50% in the country and the homeless and numbers of orphans grow exponentially each year. Which demonstrates these religious organizations are more about having control, raising money on false charges and manipulating ignorant Americans to champion these causes over the Biblical call to care for the down-trodden, children and the sick.

Shame, Shame on the California Supreme Court for supporting discrimination in America.
